The last week in New Zealand

NEW ZEALAND | Monday, 4 August 2008 | Views [1124] | Comments [1]

Despite all the planning and time spent, there was still a whole heap of things to do on the last week... did I say the last week? I meant the last day!!!

Kent was busy rushing about painting boards to go in the garden, galvanised mesh for the fishpond, putting on door stoppers, hanging doors, sorting (still) the stuff in the garage. I was taking loads to the dump, taking loads to JV's to store (not much difference between those two), trying to figure out what in the garage was junk and what was treasure (men & women have different ideas about these things).

And all of this was happening in the rain! It has been raining in Rotorua, and most of New Zealand for about 3 months. Rain, rain, rain.

Two days in the last couple of weeks were fine for about 5 hours, long enough for me to paint the last bit of the fence and to do the fine touches on the outside windows, and for Kent to sort the cobbles in the garden area.

Believe me the last few weeks have been crazy! One night we got to bed at 6am then got going again at 9.30am! The house though looks beautiful, pity we weren't going to have a chance to enjoy it ourselves.

On Saturday we wouldn't have survived the day without the help we had from friends, several of them came and gave a one or two hours to help lessen the mayhem and it was SOOO appreciated. The prize of our day went to Simon & Michelle who, despite other things they had going on, stayed with us and helped with everything. They even didn't abandon us when it was discovered that the passports were missing. PASSPORTS MISSING? NO! yes! We had to unpack everything, EVERYTHING, and look for them. Despite my assurances to Simon that I would have to have been a complete idiot to have packed the cartridge case they were stored in Kent found them packed in a bag that I had carefully packed earlier that day, believe me I have no recollection of packing it, none! Kent remained calm throughout the drama while Carol was reduced to tears and a non functioning brain.

Passports found and on to Hamilton by 11.30pm to see Diane and Lyall who had expected us for dinner at 6pm. Picked up a parcel to take to Shirley and drove through pouring rain on to Auckland and Luke and Rachels lovely spare bed (we gave away our bed a week ago been sleeping on the couch).
