Kents belated birthday dinner The Stella Artois 970 ml cost 4.9 pesos (NZ$1.77)

Costs pp: semicama bus Cordoba to Mendoza 105p, Hospedaje El Portal del Huesped www.portaldelhuesped.com.ar matrimonial room for two for 50p after bargaining. Camping costs upwards of 40p for 2 people when the campgrounds are open.

We sat in the Cordoba bus terminal until midnight when our bus left. Luckily there was a good supermarket in the terminal so we were able to get some eats and Carol discovered 'Dulche de Leche' a caramalised milk product that is used in lots of deserts here and you can buy it by the tub and also as flavoured milk both of which are just too tempting.

At Mendoza we were approached by some touts but discovered that our budget of 50p for accommodation was too low for them but then we were approached by Consuelo who was happy at the price if we were staying for 3 nights. Unfortunately Consuelo turned out to be wonderful and awful, she tended to say anything that would get us there including that it was close to town (it was not) and that there was everything including internet close by (also not). However after we got to the house we did stay and Consuelo made our stay easier by each day taking us into town and once picking us up from where we were as well.

Kent has ended up with a sore on his stump and is getting around on the sticks, for this reason it was important for us not to be a long way from places but with Consuelos help it was ok. The first day we did walk all the way to town and back and it was quite a hike. The huge park in the centre of town is really lovely with fountains etc. We caught a local bus to see if we could find a place to camp but the campgrounds were all closed except for one and it was going to cost 28p for the tent plus 7p per person so 42p in total! Wow expensive!

We walked from town to Walmart (don't do this, it's a long way!) and bought some food to have a belated birthday dinner for Kent, steak eggs and chips, plus a 970ml bottle of Stella Artois for 4.9p! Another day we walked all over the huge park that is east of the city and also to the zoo. There was a dance festival on that interested Carol which had advertised some free exhibitions but altho we headed to see two of them they never eventuated.

Mendoza is a nice city and an easy place to stay. Next stop is Santiago, Chile.
