The trip from Glens Falls to Port Kent was alongside the western side of Lake Champagne and the scenery was lovely. For some unknown reason the local maple trees are turning red and gold already (a month early) so we got to see some 'Fall Splendour' as we rode.
At Port Kent there isn't anything much except a small beach and a restaurant and souvenier shop and of course a dock. We caught the boat from there accross the lake to Burlington, Vermont. The journey took an hour and we met some bicyclists who had been riding as a group in the NY countryside. One of them was able to give us a ride from the Burlington dock to the home of Eric where we were to stay.
After meeting Eric and his two cats we stowed our gear and headed straight out for a walk along the lake edge and back into town. There was an absolutely fabulous sunset which stained the sky a deep orange and reflected in the still lake.
In town we had a feed, Carol had 'pulled pork' - a big helping of pork pulled off the bone with a yummy sauce. Kent had an alligator sausage - it was spicey and quite a different texture from other meats.
We then walked back through the town to Erics and got ourselves up in the morning in time to get to the Burlington/Essex station to catch the 9.30am train to New York.
