I love my Sporty but find it a little high for me. My feet are on the ground but it's such a heavy bike that when I have to pull it backwards, usually into a park, I find it very difficult to handle.
I went looking at other bikes, thought hard about an Indian Scout but found it is built for those with longer arms and legs than mine. The worst bit was that my right leg was right against the exhaust when stopped with my feet on the ground. I tried a Speed Triple and it was pretty cool and zippy but the focus of your stance on the bike is down and looking at the road and I love the scenery so am better on a cruiser.
When it came down to it I realise I just LOVE Harley Davidsons, there's something about the sound, the look, the sound, the feel, oh and did I mention the sound? My 1200C has straight shot pipes so is pretty loud, yummo, and cars hear me. I mean really hear me and are aware of me on the road and that makes me feel safe. This is really necessary with the idiots that drive other vehicles on our roads and regularly take out fellow bikers.
So I went looking at Harleys again and found that there was a 1200 Superlow on the market. I had tried an 883 Superlow prior to buying my Sportster years ago but didn't like it. I didn't realise HD made a 1200. I went and tried a 2015 Superlow 1200T USA import a few weeks ago and it was such a good fit that I thought I would buy it then I discovered that for not that much more I could buy a NZ new one with ABS, fob, 2 yr warranty, kms not miles so I went looking for a NZ new one. I also went on the Harley Davidson website and looked at the new 1200T's and found they have one in purple/blackberry and it is SO beautiful, oh my heart was lost...
I contacted an NZ dealership and apparently in July the new year models come out... what? the new year models? Yes, the 2017 models are being ordered now and are available for sale in August. So great, good timing coz I don't ride in the cold, it's winter almost here now. Be a good time to buy one for the summer. But no, unfortunately these bikes haven't been popular in NZ, I'll bet it's because of the name Superlow, sort makes it obvious you are short don't you think? It's actually not a lot lower than normal but enough to help me. So no new Superlow 1200T's (T = Tourer, it is already set up with bags etc) are being brought into either New Zealand or Australia.
I have written an email to the HD shop on the USA website even though its not really where they sell bikes, I'm hoping someone in the shop with forward it on to someone who might be able to help me. I can't really see a happy ending but as with all things in life there is always hope :)
I will go to sleep each night and dream of riding my beautiful purple 1200 Tourer all over our wonderful roads this summer and invoke the Secret...
