Costs pp: bus from Punta del Este to San Carlos 28p, SC to La Paloma 98p, hostel 'Altena 5000' 175p with one free internet computer.
We were able to catch a bus from right where we were staying to San Carlos where we could catch a connecting bus on but the driver forgot to tell us when we got to the bus station and we got to take the scenic route through the town and back again.
We were just in time for the 2pm bus to La Paloma and there Carol went on a search and found a hostel in the woods which was the cheapest in town. We went for a walk to the beach, this place has a sheltered bay with an island and sandbars keeping a furious Altantic at bay. The town itself is uninteresting but there are enough beaches on both sides of the point to keep lots of visiters busy. The sea itself is pretty cold, people were in the sheltered bay in their wetsuits but noone else.
The guys in the hostel put us in a dorm room of our own which was cool, they with the other 6 tourists were up all night playing poker and having fun. We were the first up at 10am in the morning! It has been raining at night here in Uruguay for most nights, in the forest it was great, there was lightning and thunder, we slept really well tho.
Next day we had a walk down the beach on the other side of the point while waiting for our bus to leave. Then headed to La Valizas.
