Aguachica

COLOMBIA | Thursday, 14 May 2009 | Views [962] | Comments [2]

We caught a bus from Macondo to a place, any place, that was about 2hours down the road. The bus guys suggested Aguachica and took our 20,000 each and off we went. We were only on the bus for an hour when they said we had to get off and change buses. This was a little worrying as we had no ticket or receipt to show how much we had paid. However all was ok, after about an hours wait we were plonked onto another bus heading to Aguachica and nothing extra to pay.

The bus nicely took us off the caraterra (highway) and right into the town where behind the terminal we found a lovely place Hotel Buturama where we got a really nice room with bathroom and cable tv for 30,000. We stayed two nights which gave us the next day to continue watching tv and to explore the town. There was nothing special about it but having said that it was a nice place. We had thunder storms going on a fair bit and a couple of downpours. Oh and also there was a dog tied up in the backyard of the hotel right by our room. It was barking on and on so we went to investigate and found it barking at an iguana which was medium sized, about 3 foot long incl tail. Carol jumped into the yard with a towel to try to get the dog to go away but was too late as it grabbed the iguana on its back and ran off with it for dinner!  The women in the hotel came to see the commotion and were worried that the dog might have bitten Carol but we were just sad that it had had its wicked way. One of the women said that people here eat iguana too, especially when they are bigger.
