By Ken Follett, a good read, second book of his I've read. Talk about a corrupt society. Sadly it is a constant in our world. I had thought New Zealand to be less affected than other countries I have travelled in but I have come to realise that it is just better hidden. Behind a veneer of civility, explanations, graphs, etc etc etc. So well hidden sometimes that those living ordinary lives don't even imagine it existing in this calm, beautiful bunch of islands.
But the guys at the top are raping our country. Taking the riches they can to feather their own nests at the expense of the future of our land and it's people.
It's sickening, sad and demoralising. What can one person do. What will the future bring for our grandchildren. Am I lucky to have lived in a gentler time, less stress, more independance? Will my children feel the same when they grow old as the world disintegrates around them because of man's greed? Or am I just like every other generation before me who bemoans the changes that are happening and rails against them?
