This post is coming a bit late, sorry. ;-)
1. The way women in stores/restaurants scream hello (sawadee kaaaaaaaa!) with that high pitched nasally tone I thought only existed in Vietnamese and Chinese. At the same time they put their hands together in front of their face (Buddhist like) and bow.
2. 7-11 convenience stores, yes Kurt feels like a kid again! We went there often ;-) They also have matcha green tea kit kat ice cream bars!!
3. Thai food is a smorgasbord of flavors! Amazingly aromatic thanks to a huge variety of fresh ingredients: lemongrass, kefir lime leaves, multiple kinds of basil, galangal root, etc. If that weren't enough, the fresh fruit and smoothies are pretty damn good.
4. After 2 mths in the rustic conditions of India/Nepal/Myanmar, we hit the mother lode! It's clean: no litter and even cheap hotels were leaps and bounds cleaner than the nicest India hotel. Wifi works! Actually that's an understatement, wifi is frequently faster than at home (proof again Time Warner sucks)!!! And there is real espresso (Thailand produces coffee) - bye bye Nescafé.
