Turkish Riviera 2018

TURKEY | Sunday, 23 December 2018 | Views [259]

I have been to Turkey many times. This is my first time in the Turkish Riviera. I spent a week in Kas, a little too long I guess. But it was the most relaxing xmas and birthday I have every had. I am definitely doing less as I get older as my Facebook timeline notifies me. I did as much as I could in that little town during their closed season. I couldn't swim or take boat trips as it was too cold. I didn't fancy getting the ferry to the nearest Greek island. What's the point? I wondered the many cobbled streets.  Met the many cats and dogs. Had fun in their amphitheatre and walked to beautiful coastal points. It wasn't as cold as I expected and it was sunny.  Although it rained all day on Christmas day.
Then I spent 3 nights in Fethiye. It was a scenic bus ride to Fethiye. Then I  hopped on a local bus to Calis beach. A nice man at the bus station told me what to do. He had just come back from a holiday in Malaysia so when he asked me where I was from and I told him, he was ever so helpful. Found the hotel without too much trouble. Not as flash or big as I expected of this 5star hotel. But for £10 a night why expect more. Calis beach is probably gorgeous in the summer but as for now not so much. It's a bit dirty and without the sunshine everything looks grey. I do love the stray dogs that live in and around the beach looked after by the locals. I didn't realise all the little islands of the coast of Fethiye. It's quite lovely. I can see why hordes of tourists come here. There are still some tourists here but not on holiday but ones that come here to stay for weeks as it is cheaper than staying at home. I heard lots of Scottish accents while walking on the board walk. After the walk I decided to have my haircut.  I walked into a local hairdresser as it was the only one open. I said I wanted a haircut and waited for my pregnant hairdresser to arrive. She cut most of my hair off and did it very well. One of the best cuts I've had in years but bear in my all my haircuts are done in different countries. She didn't speak English. I told the owner I wanted it short and layered and that was it. It was only 30lira. That was on the last day of the year. On new year's day all the British/Scottish guys went for a swim in the cold sea.
Then I headed to Istanbul. I stayed in my favourite place, Sultanahmet. I ate many kebabs and many cream cakes. It's all I do in Istanbul.
