It took a long time to cross the border and many dollars for the visa and thankfully no one trying to jab me with a yellow fever vaccination. Once we got to our campsite I noticed a small looking lady with an umbrella. What a dope I thought…it wasn’t even raining. Then I realised it was my sister…bloody hell she shrunk. It was good to see her and then came the bad news that she had lost her luggage. It’s a shame really as this caused a lot of issues as she didn’t have a sleeping bag or blankets needed for camping. So that first night together I bunked with her in one of the chalets which was a nice change from the tent. Lynda had the tent to herself which must have been luxurious after sharing with me.
My sister and I had fun the first night, we shopped for her supplies, she went on a helicopter tour and then we both did a full moon tour of Victoria Falls. There wasn’t much to do really and things I wanted to do were not available at this side of the falls. All the fun stuff was in Livingstone as there are more people there and more options of activities. Less people in Zimbabwe therefore not many options. Everything is in dollars so much more expensive than the other countries.
The next morning we rose very early to go back to the falls to take pictures in the day for the sunrise. Amazingly we were the only ones in the falls that morning. It was great just me and my sister going from viewpoint to viewpoint taking photos. I did lose her at the bridge though so I made my way back to the exit. I got chased by some baboons on the way but luckily there were a couple of park rangers who I kind of begged to take me to the exit which they did. They even shooed away the baboons for me.
Then we started the tour properly and met the rest of the new people. This was not going to be like the last group. Lynda and I had already figured that one out but there was more to come. I had a funny feeling about one girl and true enough she turned out to be super psycho weirdo lady.
On the first day she told everyone about her very private personal life that a normal person would never share. Then she started to dance for no apparent reason in the middle of the road or street were waiting in. Then she would do weird moves on the truck and a couple of times she even cried on the truck. I avoided her like the plague unfortunately my sister and my ex tent mate were far too nice to do that and were friendly with her. I warned them about getting to close and not to be alone with her…as I could see what was coming. Thankfully she got the picture and started hanging out on her own but it did take a few days.
Our hire car turned up a day early which was great because we took it for a spin to go shopping for a suitcase for my sister. We took Lynda, Bensen the cook and Allan the guide with us as they knew the way. Well they knew the way to the furthest mall; we passed 6 malls before we got to the one they directed us to. But it was fun; my sister did a u turn and drove the wrong side of the road, and then got caught in the middle of the road trying to turn right when she should have gone straight blocking 3 cars all in the middle of the road. Like I said fun.
The last night of our tour was memorable for all the wrong reason. Psycho lady went mental at Lynda over the keys, shouting and yelling, she even threatened the rest of the group with a wine bottle. Like I said crazy! It kind of soured the mood of the group which was a shame. Fortunately I was leaving the next morning with my sister on our way to Swaziland. Poor Lynda had a day with psycho.
