TIMING MAY BE EVERYTHING BUT SOMETIMES just being lucky is good enough. The woman who checked us out at Safeway mentioned how fortunate we were that Kilauea was erupting again. Who knew? It’s nothing like the spectacular 2018 eruption that destroyed 600 homes. It doesn’t even compare to 2020-21. Nevertheless, we made a bee-line to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park this morning. This is much better than candles for Connie's Birthday.

The road to Halemaumau Crater in Kilauea Caldera is closed from the Devastation Trail parking lot so everyone must walk the last mile to the viewing area on the crater’s rim. We could see the lava splashing and flowing down below even in bright sunlight. Cell phone photos probably didn’t show much but my long lens came brought the lava up close and personal.
