Destination – Vietnam – escape from Phu Quoc Island & Nha Trang

After 10 days of torrential monsoon rain and two tropical typhoons in the South China Sea, we change plans and decide to go back to Saigon and enjoy a bit more of Vietnam before moving on to Cambodia.  So after a van-boat-taxi-van-bus-van-taxi ride (seriously) we arrive back in Saigon.  After all, there are probably at least a couple of restaurants amongst the zillion ones in this town we might have missed the first time around.   We are also ready for some urban treats such as proper internet access and cinemas, not to mention, a little dry weather.  Man, this place rocks.  This time we stay at the Kim II Hotel, nicer, very friendly and even cheaper than the Green Suites.

We also go to the movies, shopping centres, markets and, of course, more and more restaurants.  The weather is so great, after the Phu Quoc disaster, we decide to have a look at Nha Trang.

Nha Trang is a nice seaside town, kind of an urban beach really, boring but pleasant, making it a nice change from Saigon.  The weather is perfect and we hire a bike to go to a nearby beach – Cam Ranh.  Nha Trang is very touristy (it’s high season for the Vietnamese), nice, clean, organized and again, awesome food.   We stay at the La Suisse Hotel, quite nice and near the main beach and restaurants and resume our walking/eating (Lanterns, Lac Canh & Something Fishy)/sightseeing routine.   We relax and enjoy Nha Trang till it’s time to go back to Saigon, just two days before our visa expires.  Now it’s really goodbye to Vietnam.   Or maybe, just see you later? What can we say?  It’s hard to leave Vietnam, we’ve had a wonderful time here.
