We should have enough to keep us busy with surgeries and rehab, out-of-control Covid cases, racial discord, and a generally upgefucked political situation but all that just makes us more anxious to be elsewhere. Anywhere Else — Even France!
What is most frustrating is knowing that Europe is opening up to everyone except Americans! We have read and re-read our travel journals — even posted some of our favorite photos on Facebook — but it is a poor substitute for actually traveling. Is this what Thoreau meant by “lives of quiet desperation?”
Costa Rica, perhaps
Or Hawaii
We are hoping against hope that things will improve by mid-September. Costa Rica, perhaps or Hawaii. Even Florida if they ever get things under control. Our contingency plans have reached halfway through the alphabet — Plan A, Plan B, etc — without hitting on anything we can count on.

Meanwhile, while we are wait for our renewed passports to arrive, does anyone have a spare “Get Out of Jail Free” card?
