Two Months

AUSTRALIA | Saturday, 5 June 2010 | Views [855] | Comments [1]

I will start by apologising - i can't believe it's been two months since I last put a post on here.  I guess I've been even busier than I thought !

Where to start ?

Well we have finished first round mustering.  That means we have mustered all the paddocks for the first time and branded all the calves and weaners that have been born since we last mustered last year.  We will now start second round and should be finished around November.  We really have been working very hard and some very long hours in the saddle.  Typical start times have been 5 or 5.30am and finishes have been after 7pm on a regular basis, weekend work has been routine as has camping away from Jessievale in my swag.

Between the hard long hours I have managed to find a little bit of time to buy myself a nice new camera and hopefully you will be able to see the difference in the pictures I am taking.  I have just put a few up of a Jimmy Barnes concert that I attended on Thursday evening and I think that the pics have come out really well even though I am still learning.

I have also got a new motorbike which I am trying to keep all nice any had one fall off it, and we were in pretty trying conditions when it happened.  It's the dry season now and we have had some pretty good rain - enough to make all the logs we ride over very slippy (hence the fall).  Thankfully I wasn't going too fast.

There are plenty of events coming up in the next couple of months including the Cloncurry Show and Rodeo, Quamby & Mt Isa rodeos and the camel races.  Should be good, but quite expensive.

It's also starting to get a little cold with the temps in a morning around the 9 degree mark at the moment.  I was wearing 5 layers the other day !

I will try and update this more often and get some more pictures on here for you to have a look at including some of a beautiful Black Headed Python that we found on the driveway the other afternoon.  I would love to have one as a pet.  Will get some rodeo photos on here too once they start happening.

Many thanks for all the birthday messages and congratulations to Andy and Em on the bith of William Oscar.

Thats all for now, but check back soon to see some more photos.

Love

Ed

Hi Uncle Ed
Great to hear from you again - really good to catch up on all your news. Eddy I cannot tell you how fantastic William Oscar is. We are so very proud of him and his Mum & Dad who are just wonderful parents. Andy is almost showing signs of being sensible!! Just imagine that!! Seriously though the three of them are doing so well and its great to be so much nearer to them here in Tockwith.
The wedding up in Pitlochry was just wonderful. The venue was a big hotel which overlooks the town with lovely surroundings and far reaching views. The Bride looked super and Mathew so proud. A truly Scottish wedding with a Piper, lots of kilts and tartans and a ceilidh band for the evening celebrations. We were Stripping the Willow and dancing into the Wee small hours. Mathew and Kelley are now winging their way to Australia arriving in Perth sometime soon and sound to have a busy schedule ahead to pack in as much as they can in three weeks. We popped some kisses in their luggage and they are going to drop them off for you as they fly from Darwin to Cairnes. Look out for them as they carry lots of love and lots more from William too.
Tim and Nicola have tied the knot too and Andy Ms and William attended church to witness the event which was lovely - especially as we were unable to accept the invitation to the evening celebrations. So The Birds' were well represented in the end.
We hope Charlie is OK and we would love for you to take some pictures of her on your new camera when you next meet up. We enjoyed looking at the latest batch at the concert.
Its very wet here at the moment and more promised for the rest of the week so we will are confined to indoor activities.
Will go and make some tea now. Take good care Eddy.
Lots of love as always. Mum & Dad xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
