Ed in Oz Travels around the stations & pubs of Australia

Hello

AUSTRALIA | Saturday, 29 November 2008 | Views [692] | Comments [6]

Well hello again to all and thanks for the comments since I last put comment on.  I've been busy here, playing hard and having a good time.  I was down in Brisbane a couple of weekends back and saw the mighty NZ Kiwis beat the Kangaroos in the World Cup Final.  Great atmosphere and not a bad game either. 50559 attended and I think half the crowd were from the UK.  Loads of shirts from various clubs - Hull, Hull KR< Bradford, Wigan. St Helens, Keighley, and Leeds.  Nice to hear some familiar accents again !

Also had a lazy Sunday skiiing in a local dam (Water Skiing)  let me tell you, it is harder than it looks, but good fun, and thankfully no croc bites !

Over the last week or so we have had showers and the november rain total is nor around 30mm which makes a big difference to the land out herre.  Everything is beginning to get green again.  More rain is still needed, but it's a start.

Thats all for now

Ed

Hi Ed
Rain in Cloncurry!! That sounds like a turn up for the books. Now we will have to come back to Jessievale to see green grass - the cattle will think that Christmas has come early. Good to hear that the internet is up and running again.
All is OK back in cold cold Blighty but today we are the lucky ones here at home as we had sunshine and blue sky this morning. We were out early doors and as we went down towards Halifax the town was shrouded in mist with the Town Hall tower poking out like a space ship ready to be launched.
As I write this the Australian rugby team are just giving us their rendition of the National Anthem at the Millenium stadium prior to the kick off - an International Rugby Union match against Wales.
We have spent quite abit of time out in the garden of late and have done a huge amount of pruning - just hope that things sprout again in the spring time. Must say that it all looks much better for it ( Wales have just scored and the Ozzy skipper is off injured)
Well as December approaches so does the run up to Christmas. Andy & Ms are hosting this year so we are sure to have a good time.
Do hope everyone is OK. Do remember us to them and give them our good wishes for Christmas.
We had a Pre Budget report last week annd many changes were announced in a bid to get the economy moving again. We have a two and a half percent reduction in VAT as from Monday so we are all getting ready to dash to the shops!!! I don't think so really. We will all have to tighten our belts I think as we are promised lean times ahead.
Australia have just scored.
Mary is well again and back to her normal self which is so good. She always wishes to be remembered to you.
Carols and Brass on Thursday and then Messiah on Sunday so we are looking forward to sharing them with Shirley and Charles.
Phil is fine pottering, about in the garage at the moment so he will be happy.
I am going to write some Christmas Cards now so I will close.
We all send our love out to you. Take good care and glad to hear you enjoyed water skiing. I guess that is really exhausting.
With our love

Hi Eddy
Greetings from a rather cold UK.
We had quite a significant fall of snow Thursday 4.Dec which caused quite alot of disruption to the morning rush hour but then by teatime all was well and Shirley and Charles were able to travel over to enjoy Carols and Brass which was really good fun as usual. We did the twelve days of Christmas, audience divided into 11 the 12 part was taken by the band who were acually the fifth day (Five Gold Rings) and they really made a meal of it as you can well imagine. Our section were how ever many Lords a Leaping and all was going well until we had to do the actions too. It was a scream especially as John Price Jones could never remember who was doing what except for the band ofcourse. We were exhausted and our sides were aching with laughing.
Messiah a much more serious affair ofcourse, very moving and an excellent performance once again.
Just watching Peter Kay's Britains got Pop Talent a spoof reality show and its really funny. Have you seen it?
Got the Christmas cards all posted now, presents almost wrapped so well on the way now. Are you all ready in Jessivale? It will be very warm over there now I guess, how lucky are you.
Hope you have a great Christmas Eddy and that all the McMillans have a good time too.
Take real good care and can you check out your google mail at some point.
Lots of love Mum & Dad xxxxx

Hello Eddy

Well this is the second attempt, super techno here busy typing away and when I look at the screen there was nothing to be seen. The world of computers would be lost without my expertise.
Pleased to hear you are ok and that you are enjoying both the rain and water sports.
As Sue has said we went with Sue and Phil to the Carols and Brass and Messiah and thoroughly enjoyed both performances, can't believe another year has just about gone again. We also viewed Sue and Phils Australian pictures, they were excellent, they certainly had a fantastic time with you especially staying on the station and going on the musters, what an experience, you looked reaaly professional Eddy, did you really work at a desk and wear a suit !
We are busy getting ready for Christmas, unfortunately Shirley's father Derrick passed away on Saturday so we are busy at the moment. The funeral is next Tuesday which we are pleased about as it will have taken place before Christmas Day. We will raise a few classes of Whiskey in his memory.(A bottle of Sherry for Sue) We are just pleased he is longer suffering, he was in such pain.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas Eddy, will you be basking in the sun ? and we wish you a very happy new year. We will pop a christmas box into your account. All the best

Charles and Shirley

Hey bud,
Thanks for the phone call today, it must of been 5am on Oz when you called, but it was great to hear from you.

I must say that your Auzzie accent is coming along nicely, it sounds just like Rick’s accent at 11pm on a Friday night, he must be part Australian too. ;-)

If I don’t speak to you before, have a good Christmas.

Greetings Ed
Do hope you have had a wonderful warm Christmas and that you are -albeit temporarily- quite sober! We had a wonderful time in Tockwith with Andy Ms Shirley Charles Emmaj & Si. We had a super meal which Emma brought together to perfection as she does so very well. We then spent a very fun couple or three hours playing Articulate. Shirley was really good at it but I reckon it could be down to all the sherry and wine which she consumed. We had so much fun and lovely to be together but we did miss you such alot especially when it came to the sauce making! Si was drinking nettle beer, Charles had a good selection too and I just drank anything which came my way!
We then watched The Royal Family, Denise and David hosted on Christmas Day but the turkey didn't thaw out in time! They had Cuppa soup as a starter but with a twist (they served it in a bowl) and made it on the table in front of their guests! Very brave indeed. It was all ever so funny.
It was good of you to ring Ed - really appreciated that. Thank you so much foor the super calendar a lovely present to last all year - so thoughtful of you Ed.
We have been at home today but went out for a lovely walk on the top road at Wainstalls which was super. We did a bit of mustering whilst we were out (put 1 sheep back into the field) but did it very expertly after our training in Oz.
Tomorrow we are going up to Settle to meet up with Shirley & Eh up Uncle Melvyn, they have been staying with Christine and family so it will be nice to see them again.
Hope you have a good trip back to Jessievale. Give The Jones our very Best Wishes for 2009 annd we hope to hear from you again soon.
Take real good care Ed.
