Not even Rick Steves can list every place of interest in his guidebooks, especially for those with interests as eclectic as ours. We decided to take a break from culture and avoid the weekend crowds at the major attraction and stopped in the agri-town of Antequeria. Andalucia is in full-bloom. Red poppies vie with wild geraniums, yellow daisies with blue flax. Flamingoes stalk the slowly shrinking Laguna Fuente de Piedras, flashing pink and black as they sprint across the water upon take-off.
The fog rolls in
El Torcal was shrouded in clouds when we arrived early Sunday morning but birdsong drew us father and farther along the rocky trails. Some of the rock formations reminded us of Bryce Canyon, Utah, only much more verdant. Misty clouds spilled over the cliffs as we searched for the elusive birdies. As it cleared, noisy families on Sunday outings finally drove us off.
