Minha experiência de Ouro Preto

BRAZIL | Tuesday, 17 July 2012 | Views [383]

Highlights:

Inverno festival

Learning how to Samba

Cachoeira

Tasting different foods

Lowlights:

Lost my notepad in the Cachoeira.

Twisted theatre production

Places:

Museu de Inconfidencia: meaning the museum of betrayal, it is dedicated to the history of gold mining and culture in Minas Gerais.

Igrejas: There is an abundance of beautiful churches in Ouro Preto, something that stood out  was the altars constructed by Aleijadinho who despite developing a serious impediment continued his amazing work.

Parque das Andorinhes: a large park that ran from on end of Ouro Preto to the other end.

Cachoeira: swam in a beautiful, underground waterfall, was freezing cold but definitely worth it.

Cobblestone Roads: these hilly, uneven roads were a nightmare to walk on.

Pico de Itacolomi: hiked to the peak in around 3 hours.

Marianna: we went to the train station with Sabryna, watched some plays there.

Teatro Municipal: On our first day in Ouro Preto Camilla took us to see a production entitled “A filosofia na alvcova” it was an extremely twisted play with a lot of sex and incest performed using puppets. Very  crazy stuff!

People:

Camilla: blonde dreads, lots of piercings (centre nose ring),  party animal, very friendly and lots of fun.

Sabryna: short, very kind-hearted, tried to teach me how to Samba with no luck.

Yuri: extremely big-heart , connected with us and became very close.

Marcel: bald, glasses, very intelligent guy who knew much about philosophy, played chess with him.

Activity:

Inverno Festival: watched a multitude of shows: piano recital, harpsichord recital, rock bands, samba bands, theatre production (A filosofia na alvcova). The festival was very entertaining!

Learning how to Samba: Sabryna tried her best to illustrate the Samba rhythm to me, but it was completely foreign to me. It felt like I had to do the opposite of what I knew as dancing.

Breaking into the house: Sabryna left her keys in her room, I managed to use a knife to open the bathroom window from a smaller window on top. Yuri broke the lock by trying to open it with a knife, bwahahah wtf???

Foods:

Tropeiro: a mix of beans, rice, bacon, onion and cracklings.

Pao de Queijo Recheado: a type of ham inside a Brazilian cheese bun

Pao de Queijo Brigadeiro: brigadeiro inside a Brazilian cheese bun

Brigadeiro: a Brazilian chocolate bon-bon that has a slightly chewy texture.

Queijo Minas com Goaibada: a guava block sandwiched in between 2 slices of local cheese. The combination of the two complements each other spectacularly.

Escondi di nino

Drinks:

Pinha com mel: AKA Cachaca with honey.

Catuaba: an aphrodisiac drink made of grapes. It tastes really good, contains around 15% alcohol and is super cheap ($R10).

Suco de Cacau : a white fruit juice that is relatively bland.

Suco de Pitanga: an orange fruit juice, quite sweet.

Licor de Jabuticaba: drank this for our 1 month trip anniversary, was very strong, but had an excellent Jabuticaba flavour.

Words:

Trem = thing (used like thingamajig)

Ca mofa = whoring around

Uai = Why

Lagao = Great

Nossa = Lekker
