WE ARRIVED EARLY AT THE COVID TESTING site at Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, expecting long lines. Surprise—it was just us, Luis who processed us and the biohazard-suited woman who swabbed our noses. Fully staffed, the purpose-built big top could easily handle 50 people at a time. Luis told me they get a max of 4 or 5 positive results a week, often zero.
This was Connie’s first Covid test—I’m a three-times veteran—so she wasn’t prepared for the tickling deep in her nose. The good news is that we both tested negative and—lord willing and the creek don’t rise—we’ll be leaving on a jet plane in the morning.
