MADISON IS THE FIRST OF MY FRIENDS’ GRANDKIDS we have ever met—Paul and Noreen’s are already approaching adulthood, Rod and Lois’s are solidly entrenched in New Jersey and we will all be long buried before Frank’s daughters present him and Debbie with the next generation. But I can remember when Amanda was born and now she and Steve have Madison. Mazel tov! Bob and Betty. Well done, Steve and Amanda.
Connie is great at being an Aunt
We met Steve for the first time at dinner on Hickam AFB. He’s retired Army, so OK in my book, and is an attentive Dad—another check in his favor. He and Amanda make a nice couple with similar goals and interests besides Madison.
Ready for a hike Madison's Gang
We joined them on Saturday for a hike up the Makapu’u Trail on the SE side of Oahu. Madison was all glam’d out in her hat and shades and slept most of the time. The views were wonderful but the climb really did me in, even if it’s only 500 feet.

We are packing up now for our 14-day cruise to Australia. Our first two stops are in Maui and the Big Island so there may be other entries before we reach Oz, but I wouldn’t count on it. If not, Aloha for now.
