Cathedral Cove view from thru the rocks

Cathedral Cove view from thru the rocks

Our first major stop on our roadtrip Coromandel Peninsula. This area was along the main coastal road and the views were just stunning. It was corner after corner of great cliffs, water, mountains, farms and it was breathtaking.

We had a stop at Catherdral Cove. This was a little cove that you walk 1.5 hours to from Haihei beach. The walk itself is mostly along the water edge so you attain stunning views and have little stops of Stingray Bay and Gemstone Bay. If you can bring snorkel gear here as it was clear light blue water and just ever so pretty. Arriving at Cathedral Cove, you are stunned by the natural erosion of a Giant rock that has a BIG BIG hole in it. Better yet you look through to see more stunning blue water and more marble like rocks. Great place to spend the afternoon with a BBQ and swim.

Another great stop was Hot Water Beach. NZ has a lot of Volcanic activity everywhere. In this location a part of the beach has an area where the sand is around 60-64 degrees celcius in temp in the cold night time! Your bury your feet a bit in the sand and they start to BURN! The thing to do is hire a shovel for $5 dig a big hole in low tide and allow some water in. You then have a natural hot pool! WE missed out on this great event as it was storming the previous day. SO no low tide. However with the water to my thighs and my feet buried in the sand I got a taste the wonder. I wanted MORE so ofcourse I tried to sit down. However the waves were so strong I was thrashed around and ended us soaking wet.

On the camervan thing.. there is no showers. However we got one at the beach with our swimmers on! haha good enough for us!

We would then park the car in some free parking or free camping area, watch maybe a DVD (which we would hire at night) and sleep like babies.  It is really fun and comfortable we feel like we have our own little home.

Breaky, Lunch or dinner is basically where we decide to park with some great views... some yummy food from the supermarket and we are set!

Ciao for now!
