Room with a view of the iSimangaliso Wetlands, St. Lucia

The iSimangaliso Wetlands isn't on the Garden Rute and it's one hell of a long drive from Kurger Natinal Park.  We decided to include the photos of this World Heritage Site with Kruger because of the special environment and the birds and animals.

Our room at Seasands in St. Lucia overlooks the welanads with the Indian Ocean in the distance.  St. Lucia is in fact part of the park.  We were warned to use the car at night even for the short distance to the restaurants.  Hippos roam the streets after dark and hippos always have the right of way.

Even with a drearty day of rain, Connie managed to add sixteen new birds and I got some "keeper" photos despite the challenging conditions.  We also had a brief and unexpected sighting of the rare and endangered Simanga monkeys, endemic to the wetlands.
