There's the frog! Salamanca

There's the frog! Salamanca

Salamanca hosts the largest university in Spain and Spain’s largest plaza.  But it’s the little things that make the town interesting.  Students believe it brings good luck if you can find the skull with the frog on it near the university’s entrance.  Then there is the astronaut carve into the archway of the Cathedral.  You can imagine how that was received in Catholic Spain!

      One Small Step for Salamanca

We will return to Spain later this month, but for now we’re off to Portugal.  Guarda seemed a likely first stop.  It’s not far from the border and it is convenient to Serra da Estrela National Park, one of tomorrow’s stops.  See you on the other side of the border.
