Napier

I wanted to visit the town of Napier on the east coast, but due to the test cricket being played there all acomodation was fully booked. So I hired a car and went just for the day. Napier is known for its Art Deco style buildings. The original town was destroyed in an earthquake and was rebuilt in a couple of years during the early 1930's. However, I was disapointed with the town. To see any art deco features you have to look above ground floor level otherwise you could be in any town with the familiar shop fronts of Subway, The Body Shop etc. On the positive side, the sun was shining, the temperature was 28c and the walk along the beach was nice. I'm glad though that I couldn't book for a few days - there's just not enough to do.
