Sun 2nd - Mon 3rd November - Katmandu

NEPAL | Sunday, 2 November 2008 | Views [604]

8 hours to Kathmandu on local bus, on the back seat with little cushioning and crammed and bumpy. Nice Aussie gave me his front seat next to Ruth halfway. Hot, hot, hot. No more buses for me - I am Train Woman.

Check into the Hilton Hotel - no, really. It used to be the Ramada but that obviously didn't work. Here for 2 nights at 480 Nepali rupees - about a fiver. Found Sam's Bar and left a message for Fergus who has dropped off the map again.

Bacon! They have bacon here! So long in Muslim countries that I have forgotten all about pigs. Scrambled eggs on toast, garlicky sausage and grilled tomatot. I am in heaven.

Checked out flight to China - 400 dollars. Sats and Tues only with China Air. Temperature in ChengduChina is dropping fast so checking out down jackets. If they squish would be perfect.

Just found out there is a train from Lhasa, Tibet to Beijing. How cool is that!! Would make up for missing out on the Karakoram Highway.

Hideously lonely yesterday but not tonight. Adter cappucino felt burst of pure happiness. India is wearing off. It is not so hot here and I love it.

Hotel wants extra for last nights a/c so big argument and checking out tomorrow. Not a nice area to walk home to at night anyway. Even the fearless one is not dumb.
