FOLKS WHO KNOW—OR CARE—ABOUT such things consider Sedona to be a spiritual mecca and global metaphysical center. For them the red-orange of the rocks is one of the most neuro-stimulating of colors and the year-round greenery adds a sense of hope and renewal. For those of us with a more pragmatic view, Sedona is just really pretty, a chance to escape the dusty, khaki-brown of the desert. We hardly even noticed the uplifting power of its vortex meditation sites.

Warning! High-Voltage Vortex
We didn’t have time to explore the hiking opportunities around Sedona nor did we feel like having our chakras realigned. Instead we visited the Chapel of the Holy Cross just outside of town. It combines a chance for a nice walk with spectacular scenery and a touch of spirituality of the Christian sort for those who are so inclined. The Chapel, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright protégé Marguerite Brunswig Staude, protrudes from the red sandstone in a manner that does FLW proud.

On their knees
A confession. Filled with hope and renewal, neurons in high gear Connie and I agreed that that Sedona is really pretty!
