IT’S CALLED PUNTO DE PLAYA PELENCHO on the map but to me it is “Connie’s Beach.” She “discovered” it on one of her morning walks, a bumpy dirt road ending in a mile long cove of beach. The ATV tours sometimes stop by for a photo op with Isla Loros in the background and judging by the hoof-prints, the horsey crowd canters through on occasion. Otherwise Connie’s Beach is virtually un-visited.
Fishing at Connie's Beach
Even on the roughest days, the waves are small. The water is bathtub-warm and emerald green. The half-buried rocks that point to Parrot Island make a good place to fish—although I haven’t yet caught anything. I’ve hooked a few but still have nothing to show for it.
Amazon Kingfisher
White-lored Gnatcatcher
Hermit Crab
The birding on the road and along the estuary has been pretty good, though. We got a pretty good look at an Amazon Kingfisher and a White-lored Gnatcatcher plus a photo of one of the thousands of hermit crabs. It's a wonderful place—but keep it under your hat!
