IF I HAD DONE DUE DILIGENCE I WOULD have realized that Turangi is the trout fishing capital of New Zealand. You would think our lodging, Angler’s Rest Motel, would have been a clue.. Instead I learned that it isn’t possible to book a fishing guide on only two days notice, even if you have the geld to pay them.
We did have some nice hikes combined with good birding. We got really good photos of the indigenous Blue Duck, the introduced but oh-so-cute California Quail and Whitehead and not so good shots of Yellow-crowned Parakeets.
Yellow-Crowned Parakeet
Guess I’ll have to plan ahead when we reach Lake Wanaka on the South Island.
