BARELY A DAY HAS PASSED AND THE CRUISE seems a distant memory. We hopped on the airport bus, picked up our shiny black Suzuki Swift and went in search of Sunny Holiday House, only about 10K from the harbor. We waited out the three hours until check-in at the mall, catching up on email. It’s amazing how little there was of importance after nearly two weeks at sea. And John got a much-needed haircut.
Ten people sharing one bathroom — Hardly Sunny
Sunny, matron of said Holiday House, omitted a few details in her booking.com listing. It should have been called "Hardly Sunny Holiday House." She failed to mention that the kitchen is shared not only by guests, it’s her kitchen, too. Only one light fixture in four has a bulb. The promised washing machine is on its last legs and, oh yeah, there is only one bathroom for as many as ten guests! We have several Chinese, a family from Taiwan, another from Indonesia, an semi-permanent Iranian and us.
Shared Kitchen Common Room
But it’s cheap lodging for Auckland — $65/night. It’s convenient to a supermarket, the wifi works and we’ve been on the run.
