This is a great city. Ive been here before though, and coming to the end of my first 'section' of trip i felt lazy and not in a sightseeing mood. In fact in the two days i spent here i saw 4 films! It was great but i got a bit fed up of popcorn so i switched to beer instead. I also still ended up walking around, enjoying the atmosphere, the street artists on the Ramblas, the architecture and the xmas buzz.
My hostel was quite strange, and quite noisy - it even contained a little gym, which no one used. Well it is Xmas time - not that i think anyone would have used it anyway - Spain is a party place. One girl spent both days asleep in bed and then went out at night until about 6 in the morning - it wouldn't have been so unusual except she'd been doing it for over a week. ouch.
I had some very interesting chats with a girl who had just been to Switzerland studying the philosophy of religion. Basically she knew she wanted to follow a faith but due to her mixed heritage wasn't sure which. Her science background meant that she wanted to follow one that made sense and felt right to her. For an atheist i have a surprising amount of religious and philosophical influences, i found it fascinating, and seeing as part the hostel was having a party until 4am, it helped pass the time away in our dorm.
Ive got a train booked to Alicante where my parents will hopefully be meeting me. It will really be the end of this European trip the...I'm really looking forward to seeing them, but i don't want to end yet.
