Wow, things got easy this time. One train journey with only one connection and i arrived. The first thing i noticed is that every little table on the train has a bottle opener for your beer. The second thing is that there aren't platforms between most of the train lines - you just walk over the lines to get to your train. So let me get this right; they help you to drink and then they want you to walk all over the train lines...
...i like it.
Prague is certainly a happening city, bars, clubs, cinemas, theatres, museums, churches, opera, ballet etc. So does it give you culture and a good time? I thought so at first...but three days later i've done the culture and i'm tired with the 'good time'. I'm not here on a Stag do, and a lot of the culture is churches and architecture, and as much as i love architecture it only goes so far when a lot of places are smeared with booze and sleaze and covered over with a police presence. Shame, maybe it's just me, but i know a lot of other cities have the same problems (London, Paris etc) but their problems seem to be more confined and they have SO much more going for them.
The castle complex (as I've read everywhere) is the biggest in the world and it's quite impressive. It was a fair old climb up the south tower and i passed many a wheezy person on my way to the top - and then nearly passed out from dizziness. Serves me right for showing off. The streets and buildings are magnificent and the river and the bridges stop everything becoming too cluttered, and give great night time vistas. Much to my delight it even has an Olympic swimming pool - indoor and out, and yes i tried them both. It was like swimming in the sea - seriously, there were waves. I'm sure there was a rip current and it wasn't just me being unfit.
Tonight will be my fourth and last night, which I'm glad of. it's a very nice little hostel but alas it's full of yanks whose only goal is to sleep during the day, get drunk until 3 in the morning and then have sex in the dorm (it's been two nights on the trot now) and i know it's not just me who gets woken up by the noise. I don't know whether to tell them to stop, or to switch the light on so we can all see as well as hear. I'm too old for all of this, or perhaps I'm just missing my mates and would be wanting to stay for another 4 nights otherwise. Roll on the next place.
