Treks in Nepal + hotels

NEPAL | Saturday, 12 July 2008 | Views [900]

Well we are lucky to stay in a great hostel for 400 ruppee a night for us both.  Which include private hot shower, bathrooms and cable tv and SO CLEAN- not to mention the great service they give.  This is in the heart of Thamel the centre sorta area of Kathmandu.  You can get cheaper ofcourse and more expensive.  This is the Norling Hotel.  Much recommended.

There are many treks in Nepal.  Unfortuantely June-August is the worst time to come as it is Monsoon season.  So this cuts the options down to a few main ones.

You can still do the Everest base camp (12-14 days) - around 740 USD a person which includes a personal guide, porter, flight to start of trek , all meals and permits.  However visibility is not great.  However still possible.

Annapura circuit - 16-21 days depending on how long you choose to enjoy some great spots like hotsprings and villiages etc.  Same deal as above for about 620USD pp.  The start of the trek is some local villiages, then head into mountains reaching max 5200feet high.  This is voted the No 1 trek in the world.  Weather is still good in this area and at the high altitudes at this time of year so still open.

Johnson trek - 12 days - basically the second half of the Annapura circuit.  Which takes you to the lower Mustang area which is gorgoues with the local Tibetian towns. About 400 USD pp.

The Upper Mustang area is even more precious - but that costs 750USD just for the permit alone!

There is a very special trek we are considering.  This is called the Ethnic Villiage Trek.  This is from 5-7 days.  Costs about 90USD pp.  This is special as it is in the mountains outside of Kathmandu - BUT it is to help the VERY remote and local villiages of the area.  This is so remote than we would be only the 6th and 7th outsider to ever have visited the villiage.  Here we spend a day helping the kids, donating services, cooking our meals, working perhaps the rice fields as well as gorgoues trekking.  We sleep with the locals in their homes as there are NO resturants and hotels or guesthouses.  NOTE: Bathroom is the river and the bushes... hehe sounds like a great deal to me!  No every trek places offers this one - only Adevture Treks - I will load their info later for any who are interested.

Ciao for now
