THE GERMAN SKIES LOOKED ESPECIALLY GRAY and brooding after the sunshine of the Philippines. But Ramstein Air Base is our Frost-y home away from home, where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in. I think I have mentioned that we couldn’t do what we do nearly as easily if it weren’t for the ability to receive healthcare at US military bases abroad. We are stil jetlagge after 30-something hours from Manila to Frankfurt but we have already had physicals, flu shots and gotten our prescriptions filled and teeth cleaned — not bad for only two days — and are plotting another European interlude.
Our original plans were to fly on to Gabon and Sao Tome but the west African ebola epidemic has given us second thoughts. We may color outside the lines occasionally but tempting ebola is like running with scissors — a bad idea. More than the infintisimal chance of catching ebola, it's the stigma of having been to the area — the questions and quarantines upon returning that put us off. So we will spend the next few months in the EU; Brussels, Netherlands, Venice, the Greek Isles . . . and who knows where?
