CNN reported yesterday about 700 passengers who became ill on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Explorer of the Seas; tainted food, I imagine. Although the cruise line offered the passengers a 50% rebate on the cruise, half-price on a future cruise and free on-board services including wi-fi and wine, Anderson Cooper in his usual smarmy way, inferred that it was hardly enough, implying that the passengers should demand more.
Granted, a cruise is the tamest, most vanilla form of traveling, things can – and will – still go wrong. It is part of the travel experience. Just ask those folks trapped by pack ice in Antarctica. They took the hardship as an adventure and probably cherished the experience.
Perhaps it is time for Mr. Cooper and his brethren to stick to reporting the news, not spinning it. It is the Cable News Network, not the Cable Editorial Network.
