Minha experiência de Cochambamba

BOLIVIA | Thursday, 6 September 2012 | Views [315]

Highlights:

La Cancha Mercado

Meeting Maykol, crazy lad!!!

Lowlights:

Stomach problems – street food tastes great but is not always hygienic

Being stuck here for an extra week due to blockades to La Paz. Damn miners!!!

Places:

Casa Blanca: A restaurant we frequently visited. They served a wide range of international cuisine, I tried Hungarian Goulash for the first time here (pretty random in Bolivia), it was really good (although I wasn’t sure what it should have tasted like). I enjoyed the ice tea “Mate” they had here.

Dumbo: A great restaurant with a great variety of food, I had a Mexican salad here as well as Nachos.

Cine Center: a huge Cinema centre, it was the first time I have ever come across a standalone cinema house (it had a few restaurants as well). We watched REC3 here, the poster said that it had Spanish subtitles, so we thought it was an American movie, it turned out to be a Spanish movie with no subtitles. It was a zombie movie so there were probably only like 3 words in the whole movie haha. It was very cheesy and the story was terrible but I learnt a bit of Spanish in the process.

Cine Norte: a smaller cinema next to the shopping centre. We watched Resident Evil 5: The Vengeance. I was fascinated that the cinema sold Nachos with a cheese dip so I got myself one, it was really good. The movie was pretty average as I had higher expectations of it.

La Cancha Mercado: This market sold everything from electronics to clothing. The psychedelic Bolivian material used in bags, clothing and almost everything jumped out at you. Everything was so cheap I felt like buying the whole market. I bought a tie, 2 Bolivian beanies, gloves, a watch, 3 pouches for my electronics, a fridge magnet, a hacky-sack ball and a T-shirt for all under R200. CRAZY!!!

People:

Ignar:  Brazilian, extremely tall, had glasses, studying medicine in Bolivia, very quiet, reserved, doesn’t like to party, accommodating.

Maykol: Bolivian, a little chubby, short, lived in America for 12 years, came back to his family a few days before we met him, kind, caring, extremely friendly, a PIMP of note, loves to party, told us the story of when he tried ordering beers in the US and asked for 3 bitches instead of 3 pitches, invited us to his mom’s restaurant where he served us supper on the house.

Jordan: American girl, blonde hair, spent about 6 hours with her as she was being hosted by Ignar on the day we arrived, very friendly, knowledgeable and easy to converse with.

Activity:

Didn’t do much really, just lazed around most of the time surfing the net, watching movies (The Dictator, Time, some documentaries), reading and eating.

Bar hoping: had a crazy night with Maykol, we started off hoping a few bars and eventually ended up at a few clubs. Maykol and I partied until 4:00 in the morning.

Foods:

Silpancho: A huge steak-like piece of meat with an egg on top and rice underneath.
