Tuesday 18th Nov - Gyantse, Tibet

CHINA | Tuesday, 18 November 2008 | Views [339]

Got here early and checked in to superb, luxurious hotel. Again with the twin-bedded room, wallpaper and tv. Chinese tv is OK but has no Hollywood movie channel like India and Nepal. i know, I know, but you do get spoilt sometimes and watching the Sixth Sense in the Nepali language was a treat. This time decline the temple or monastery and go to the supermarket instead. Amazing supermarket - stock up on coffe and loo paper an tings. This is a nice town - not so Old West as Nyalam and Lhatse.

We have 'Chateaubriand' in posh Chinese-y restaurant - yak steak; and broccoli! cauliflower! carrots!! chips!!! and then pig out on pancakes, apple for me and chocolate sauce for the lads.

rest of the day we are all on the net. I am sorely tempted by Chinese Army greatcoat (always regretted not buying Soviet Naval uniform 25 years ago) but resist as the Chinese Army scare me. And I do not photograph them - even sneakily.
