Off to Perth we go…….

Steve was adament that since we have come this far we should at least visit the WA Capital (I was a little less enthusiastic and was bemoaning the fact that if you’ve seen one city you’ve seen them all – however I’m glad he insisted).  So in we ventured navigating peak hour transport to get to a caravan park 14k north of the city centre.  It was a terrific caravan park and you could easily forget that you were in a capital city.  It abutted a lake with loads of ducks, swans and swamp hens.  It had a great camp kitchen, and I in particular LOVED the ablutions block which had individual rooms each with a toilet, shower, basin and mirror (like your own little ensuite) – it was clean AND your clothes stayed dry whilst you had a shower sitting on a little wooden bench….. what a bonus

As an aside, you know, I have to say that I was not prepared (somewhat naively) for the fact that you still have to do all the normal jobs that go along with daily family life – washing, sweeping, more washing, grocery shopping, homework, etc – but without any of the modern conveniences to do them – so it takes so much longer!  Enough of a whinge – I know I cant complaign I’m on 7 months holiday!!

Next day we bravely faced the joys of public transport and discovered that infact Perths public transport system was both cheap and highly efficient.  (The parking for cars in the city however was very expensive – nice to see a city making a real effort to encourage it’s citizens to use public transport!!).  Anyway – it was a bus trip and then a train trip into the city centre.  Once in the city all bus fares are free so we travelled around at will within the city zone without paying any extra.  Had lunch and a lovely walk around Kings Park (Botanical Gardens) – which are well worth a visit.  Whilst in the city we also got kitted out ready for snorkeling at Ningaloo Reef!.
