Hoi An part 2

So why did i spend 2 weeks here...

So why did i spend 2 weeks here...

Over 14 hours on an overnight bus while suffering from flu. I LOVE travelling. I also love Hoi An and I'm having a 2 week holiday from a holiday:

Places We Love (Ivan V Lalic)

Places we love exist only through us,
Space destroyed is only illusion in the constancy of time,
Places we love we can never leave,
Places we love, together, together, together,

And is this room really a room, or an embrace,
And what is beneath the window: a street or years?
And the window is only the imprint left by
The first rain we understood, returning endlessly,

And this wall does not define the room, but perhaps the night
Your son began to move in your sleeping blood,
A son like a butterfly of flame in your hall of mirrors,
The night you were frightened by your own light,

And this door leads into any afternoon
Which outlives it, forever peopled
With your casual movements, as you stepped,
Like fire into copper, into my only memory;

When you go, space closes over like water behind you,
Do not look back: there is nothing outside you,
Space is only time visible in a different way,
Places we love we can never leave.

moto driver man...
where you go...
moto man...
OK?

Hi Shane,

Try a Vietnamese cooking course when you're there. I memory serves me right we did that in Huong Vong restaurent at the river site. But knowing Vietnam : If it is succesfull you now can do it in every restaurant in town!

My memory of Hoi An public beach :
Hey Mister, Pineapple you? NO! Banana you? NO! Sigarettes you? NO! Maybe later? NO! Maybe tomorrow? NO! Maybe never? YES!!! Then one minute later the next old lady arrives who had exactly the same "english" teacher..... Shane: Are you trying to say you don't want anything!? Don't you know that lady has got 5 kids, 25 grandkids, 4 dogs, 3 water buffalo and 18 chickens to feed?...you mean westerner you. Too late for the cooking class, I've been there and eaten all the food - what do you think i was doing in Hoi An for 2 weeks!

I love this poem and it has inspired many recent paintings - some are on my website, some soon to be uploaded. I love the ideas about memory of place.
I googled the poem as I wanted to send it someone and feel thoughful seeing your blog, as I always mean to travel more - I only do bits and pieces, as I get involved in painting and art projects and its hard to take much time out. I need some kind of painting van.
Happy adventuring... shane: a lovely website, i look forward to seeing the poems and the paintings.
