I got into the airport last night around 9:00 pm. After a lot of waiting, and hour train ride and a bit of luck, I found my hostel around half past 11 pm. I met a group of Italians here to learn English as they were gearing up to go to the Ministry of Sound. If I had been more awake I might have gone with them. However, I went straight to bed.
This morning I woke up around 8:30 to catch the tail end of a nice free breakfast at the hostel. I think I’ve been the first person to say “Wow! Look how cheap everything is in London.” Iceland is seriously tough on the wallet, and it is weird to be happy paying about 4 pounds for a pint of beer. An OK beer in Reykjavik was 1,100 ISK (about $10) and food was even worse.
Today has been my errand day. I got my phone back up and running, caught up with all the emails I’ve missed and did a bit of laundry. However, I did find it necessary to do a quick walk along the river as my hostel is so outrageously close to the Southbank. In a little bit, I’m going to leave the pub I’m sitting in and head to one with a little better food option. Some fish and chips is sounding like a deliciously trite idea, so that’ll be my dinner.
It is a bank holiday weekend here in London, so things are a bit different than usual. Tomorrow, I might go to the Shard and read a book followed by some curry. It might depend on whether the weather holds out. I have NEVER seen it rain in England. Seriously. Including my last trip, this is now my 12th day in England that has been rain free. I’m not upset, but I’m starting to think the rainy England stereotype needs a bit of adjusting.
