Danube River Cruise 2016 - Vilshofen

Germany | Sunday, August 7, 2016 | 16 photos

We left Passau for Vilshofen, entering our last lock about an hour after departure. It was a beautiful summer afternoon and a bit of a sad one as we had to pack and get ready for an early departure tomorrow. The bags have to be out of our rooms at 7 and we need to be on the bus to Munich at 8:30.

I think AmaWaterways has a great tradition in the early evening there was a special champagne farewell with appetizers and final words by the cruise manager, Sebastien Leroy. He did an unbelievably terrific job managing all of us for the week. He introduced the various departments that run the ship with 49 staff in total. The hotel manager introduced the chefs and other galley staff, including the baker that made the fresh bread every day. Then the service/wait staff/ and bartenders were introduced, followed by the administrative staff, including reception and the purser, and then the housekeeping staff. Our Zjaneta from Serbia gave a great smile to us!!! After the hotel manager and his staff were introduced, the Captain and his staff were introduced. The 4 sailors, usually in shorts and blue polo shirts were in uniform with ties and looked nearly uncomfortable. Especially the man who seemed to be the only one untying the bow and stern lines and then running and jumping on the ship as it drifted away from the docks.

Sunday night was in Vilshofen, where we had our last special dinner, preceded by a mini Octoberfest! We will miss our journey on the Danube, a perfect experiences on Amawaterways’ AmaSonata. Great team, great crew, great experience. Farewell.
