Easter again!

SPAIN | Wednesday, 19 March 2008 | Views [1004]

This year, as we are leaving Spain in June we decided to make another big Easter trip. This time we're going to Granada, Malaga and Valencia.

Unfortunately the holiday didn't start too well. The airline lost our luggage and when we arrived at our hotel afeter a long walk we found it was closed and locked! We phoned and they said we were at the other hotel! - That was the address we had, I swear. Anyway, they told us we had to go to the other one, which was near the Alhambra Palace - another 30 minute walk away!

Next day started well, we went to the town and had a look round before our Alhambra visit time at 2pm. then we stopped to have a tea and that was when it started raining. Not just any rain. Torrential, continual rain. We went back to hotel to get our bags (just delivered to the hotel by courier) and got soaked to the skin. We changed clothes, got our waterproof jackets out and went to Alhambra. And it rained. And the temperature dropped. And it rained.

It stopped when we went into the Nasrid palace at six, After 4 hours!

Then the camera batteries ran out. So all our pictures have a heavy grey sky and we look wet and cold. Peole tell us Alhambra is lovely, and next day we could see why, but i think we'll remember it in that grey and cold weather.

Next day things took a turn for the better. The weather was lovely, we went to the arab quarter and had a wonderful morning. There were people playing guitars and spontaneous spectator dancing going on - amazing!

That afternoon we went to Malaga, and did a lot of sightseeing and eating. Maria from Seville came to meet us on the first day and we went to the Picasso museum. Did you know he was born in Malaga? Well he was. We were here for 4 days so could take our time and even took a day trip to Marbella - recommended by my mum! And we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Finally we took a short flight from Malaga to Valencia. This was special as it was a tiny plane with propellers on the engines and there were only 6 passengers - including Vendy and me - the other 4 were businessmen!! We got special treatment from the stewardesses and needless to say we were the only people waiting for luggage!!

Not many Spanish people talk about Valencia and didnt know why we wanted to go, but we loved it there - and the Paella too!! It is where Paella is supposed to have originated and was fantastic!

There is something for everyone here, with the arts and sciences centre, the old town, the huge park where te river once flowed and of course - the beach. we only had 2 days here and it was barely enough as you could spend a week here easily and not be bored. We'll definately be going back one day.
