Los Arcos to Estella and the magical wine fountain

SPAIN | Sunday, 27 May 2007 | Views [3060]

For 3 consecutive Sundays we woke up early to do this part of the 'Camino de Santiago' and afer putting it off every time because of bad weather each week (which only improved later) on 27th May, for the third time, and with only 4 weeks left in pamplona, in pouring rain, we decided to take the risk and go for it.

By the time we arrived in Los Arcos the weather was noticeably better, but the hike was very long and everyone looked at us funny because we decided to do this section backwards!! Everyone goes towards Santiago de Compostella but we had a better idea - to go towards the monastery with the famous 'wine fountain'!

Actually, by far the main highlight of this trip for me was the wine fountain, which I still believe was a real miracle!

Except it isn't. It's a gift for the pilgrims to help them relax and refresh themselves at the end of a tough day, and this is what we did!
