Duathlon and Gernika trip

SPAIN | Saturday, 19 April 2008 | Views [603]

The duathlon started at 16.00, and having to travel on the 'Euskotren'-or Topo from San Sebastian meant a 3 hour journey even though the bus could get there in 1 hour!. We left nice and early 'cos Gernika is famous for being bombed by Hitler before the war, and for Franco allowing him to. There wasn't much left of the town but luckily some of the main buildings survived.

We looked around and then i did the race. The cycling was horrible 'cos the way back was hilly and wind was in our faces all the way back. To make matters worse it seemed that everyone overtook me!

Then it was back on the train for a 4.5 hour journey home courtesy of of the 'Topo' again, and this time accompanied by a full train of drunk teenagers. Just what we both wanted!!

Despite all this we had a nice day, if not very tiring...

I think Vendy enjoyed it anyway...
