For the last 5 days we have been camped at the Kinchega National Park. We are camped beside the river and I have really liked taking out the canoe with mum and dad. I especially had fun today because dad put a small motor on the back of the canoe so we could go further upstream – it was fun. I have seen lots of fish in the water, lots of ducks and a turtle. There are lots of different birds animals here; kangaroo’s, wallaroo’s, emu’s, and a goanna (which was climbing up a tree to get some bird chicks or eggs).
We have been having a campfire every night – and dad has been teaching me how to lay the fire and light it. It has been my job to lay the fire each night, and to move buckets of river water around during the day so that they stay in the sun to warm up for our shower at night.
We have some portable hand radios that work for several kms (and the car UHF radio can talk to the hand radios for up to 50kms). We have been using the radios if only two of us goes canoeing or a bike ride or a walk – so we can keep in touch.
We also are using a personal GPS which is fun to use on the canoe because it shows a drawing on the screen which shows where we have been. Tomorrow dad is going to set up a geo-cache which I am going to have to find using coordinates on the GPS. That will be fun.
I miss all of you
From Ethan
PS Adrian – I found out which team has the war elephants!
