Exiled Tibetan Parliament, Dharamsala

Wednesday 14th November

The first task of the day was to get a taxi to the Tibetan Delek Hospital to get someone to look at my leg and give me some crutches. Before that, I said goodbye to Jeff who was heading on to Amritsar to see the Golden Temple. The last few days had been a lot of fun. Jeff had given me a lot of useful advice and tips in terms of life as a traveller in general and more specifically on India itself. Hopefully we will meet again further down the line.

Once at the hospital, I waited for about an hour, watching highlights of the Man United-Blackburn match on the TV (there's more football on TV here than at home, if that's possible). As I waited, I got talking to a young monk of about 16 whose parents had come from Tibet. He seemed like a nice guy and recommended a few books for me to read on Tibet and the Dalai Lama.

The doctor gave me some tablets, my prescription costing about 25 pence. I also saw a physiotherapist from New Zealand who told me to rest the leg for a few days. It was all pretty straightforward.

While in that part of town, I visited the Tibetan Library and saw some great old photos. I also saw the government buildings including that of the exiled parliament and some of the ministries.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing, doing some emailing, watching TV. It's quite nice to have the time to chill out, particularly after being on the go for the past week. And there's probably no better place to be than McLeod Ganj for chilling out.
