nango beautiful humans, here i am in kunya village, my first destination. many of you know that 2 years ago i had a vision that upon arriving in africa i would recieve a name. the first night i got to the village, grandmother, the wise woman of the village sat down next to me and said "tell me when you were born, i want to give you your name"...little did she know the impact of her words. i am kena achieng, kena who was born when the sun was risen. what a beautiful welcoming.
ive been doing so much already, working with circle of hope day care, the girl child revolution, the tailoring school, and the aids and hiv clinic next week. it is an amazing experience thus far. the kids manage to keep smiles on their faces because it is all they know.
this saturday i was intending to teach the girl child group about 8 girls, how to prepare american pancakes...word spread quickly and within minutes i had 65 eager children at my side trying to peer into the process. it was wonderful to feed the kids as that may have been their only meal that day.
at circle of hope monday-friday we give the kids 2 meals and rinse down w/dirty water from the infested waters of lake victoria. its all we can do for them right now but it is something at least.
anyway if this works, you should see their beautiful faces singing to mama lija after i get this video on here.
i have made it to the homeland and i really am a sister to them all and their welcoming hearts let me know it whenever i step out my door. thanks for the many supportive hearts out there and ill be back on the net in a long time im sure....
