We drove down into Blenheim so that we could make copies of some paperwork before heading out to the Omaka Aviation Museum. What a GREAT display! Their "Knights of the Sky" exhibition features aircraft from the dawn of powered flight to the early 1930s. (Most of the airplanes are owned by Peter Jackson, of Lord of the Rings fame!) The focus is on WWI, but there are several planes from before and after that conflict. We did talk with a guide, who told us that the small propeller on the side of a plane was for charging the battery (kind of a wind-powered turbine). Anna chatted with the guide from 10-15 minutes about general aviation. Outside, Kent was able to get a couple of photos that captured pattern and landing activities for bi-planes. He also took a picture of the Marlborough Aero Club, which has been in existence since 1928. What a great way to end our stroll through Marlborough.
