Culloden

Our first stop in Scotland was Culloden Battlefield, where British troops finally put down the 1745 Jacobite uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charlie. It was bright, sunny day that was a complete reversal from the windy rain on our previous visit in 2015. Highlights at the battlefield were the Memorial Cairn (http://www.ambaile.org.uk/detail/en/9514/1/EN9514-memorial-cairn-culloden.htm) and Lenach Cottage (https://cullodenbattlefield.wordpress.com/2015/10/02/leanach-cottage/). Afterwards, we took the short drive to the Clava Cairns. Although the Cairns themselves were somewhat disappointing, the Culloden viaduct provided a stunning backdrop for the glen (especially when we saw the afternoon train crossing).
