Maruia Falls and the Ride Home from the Swingbridge

NEW ZEALAND | Saturday, 1 February 2014 | Views [229]

After our ride, we stopped for a short nap near O'Sullivan's Bridge (about 3 km from the swingbridge). Then, we headed over to Maruia Falls on State Route 65. These falls were a direct result of the 1929 earthquake – the river was diverted from its original bank. The "new" river immediately began cutting through the bank to create the falls (http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/photograph/29087/maruia-falls). We retraced our trail back to Murchison (stopping for ice cream) and Blenheim (stopping a few times for photos of the expansive views).
