We wandered through the artsy town of Hokitika, one of our favorite places on our original visit in 2005. The seasonal change from winter (2005) to spring (2013) allowed us to better appreciate all that this friendly place had to offer. Some landmarks hadn't changed (Museum) while others were closed (Catholic church) due to earthquake concerns. We found the same craft co-op we visited in 2005 and bought a few trinkets. The Southern Alps provided an exceptional backdrop, both in town and down the road a bit. We never tired of the view here, especially since we could see the ocean from the living room in our holiday house.
