Alicia & Rich's Roads to Everywhere London to Australia on the route less traveled

Chichen Itza

MEXICO | Friday, 8 May 2009 | Views [418]

Playa del Carmen is a ghost town. The first day we were here, you could look down the street and see hundreds of people walking around. Now there are only handfuls of "brave" tourists. Again this works in our favor and we are able to book a tour to Chichen Itza at a reduced price.

We head out early in the morning and our van gets us there in a little under 4 hours. The ruins are empty and we explore this new wonder of the world for a couple hours. After a quick lunch we take a dip in one to the nearby Cenotes. These are underground caves, filled with cool, clear, fresh water. The one we visit is also filled with hundreds of little fish that enjoyed nibbling at our feet.

By the time we get back to Playa, its dinner time and we eat quickly and head to bed. We've got another early morning tomorrow.
